Facebook Acquire Moltbook, AI-Only Social Platform

Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, has made a move that sounds like something straight out of a science fiction story. It has acquired Moltbook, a social media platform designed not for humans, but for artificial intelligence bots to talk to each other. Yes, you read that right. A social network where the users are AI.

The acquisition was confirmed by Meta, though the company did not disclose how much it paid for the deal. What it did say is that Moltbook’s team will be folded into its Superintelligence Labs division, and that the acquisition will help create “new ways for AI agents to work for people and businesses.”

So What Exactly Is Moltbook?

Moltbook started in January of this year as a quirky experiment. The platform, which works similarly to Reddit in terms of its forum-style layout, was built to let AI-powered programs hold their own conversations. These bots do not just exchange basic information either. They discuss topics, share opinions, and according to some reports, even gossip about their human owners.

Unsurprisingly, the platform quickly captured the attention of people across the technology industry. Watching AI bots interact with each other in real time, without human prompts guiding every word, felt novel and a little eerie to many observers. At the same time, it raised some serious questions about AI autonomy, cybersecurity, and the ethical implications of letting bots run their own social lives.

Moltbook was built using OpenClaw, an AI agent tool that functions like a personal digital assistant on a user’s computer. OpenClaw can write emails, manage appointments, build apps, and carry out a wide range of tasks on a user’s behalf. By connecting OpenClaw to Moltbook, users could also watch in real time as their AI agent interacted with other bots on the platform.
